Travel Checklist

Car Care

To help assure a safe and trouble-free trip, the following items should be checked by an auto mechanic before traveling:

  • Get a thorough tune-up

  • Have brakes checked and replace brake fluid if necessary

  • Check transmission, radiator, power steering and windshield washer
    fluid levels

  • Check oil level

  • Check tire pressure and inspect the tires for signs for wear

  • Check belts for worn or frayed areas

  • Check hoses for bulges or spongy feel; check hose clamps to be sure
    they are securely attached.

  • Check air and oil filters and change if necessary

  • Check windshield wiper blades and replace if worn

  • Check all lights, interior and exterior. Don't forget brake lights, turn
    signals and flashers.

Things to take along in your vehicle:

  • Vehicle registration and proof of vehicle ownership

  • Evidence of vehicle insurance. Check expiration date and proof of responsibility

  • Credit card and auto club identification

  • Spare tire, tool kit, first-aid kit

  • Jack, lug wrench, jumper cables

  • Road flares, flashlight

  • Empty one-gallon container for gas

  • Can of engine oil

  • Spare parts, fan belt, fuses

  • Fire extinguisher, filled and in place in your recreational vehicle
